In an attempt to boost TV ratings, the International Olympic Committee has added four new events to the 2018 Winter Olympics programme.
The Games, which will be held in South Korea, will feature mass start speed skating, in which up to 20 skaters will race around the oval at the same time. There'll also be an alpine skiing nations team event, for men and women, as well as mixed doubles curling.
Apart from the potential of Rollerball-style physicality in the mass start speed skating, organisers are hoping the wow factor of big air snowboarding, with competitors adding a range of mid-air acrobatic tricks similar to slopestyle, will have us setting our alarm clocks early to check the action. Big-air snowboaring has been a feature of the X Games for years.
