Killester shoot for Star as Cup fever grips Arena

Cup fever grips Irish basketball this weekend as the opening round of the Men's National Cup gets under way.

Regardless of their league form, every team stepping on the court this weekend will feel like they have at least a puncher's chance at glory come January and finals day in the National Basketball Arena.

"Everyone is so motivated for these games," said Neil Campbell of UL Eagles, who won captained his side to the cup title in 2012.

"For the teams struggling early in the league, the cup can feel like a lifeline to getting your season back on track."

Tonight: Men's National Cup – Round 1, Leg 1: Killester v Belfast Star, IWA Clontarf, 7pm; Bord Gáis Neptune v Moycullen, Neptune Stadium, 7pm; UL Eagles v Dublin Inter, UL Sport Arena, 7.30pm.

Men's National Shield – Round 1: Maree v JM&L Auctioneers Titans, Calasanctius College, 8:30pm.

Sunday: Men's National Cup – Round 1, Leg 1:
