Killester plot to clip Eagles

The 2011-12 National League Play-Off quarter-finals commence this weekend with a number of potentially mouth-watering clashes.

Reigning Nivea For Men's SuperLeague champions 11890 Killester host National Cup champions UL Eagles in Clontarf tonight.

Killester will be disappointed to have secured just a second-place finish in the Northern Conference but their recent outstanding win over DCU Saints outlines their intentions for the knockout stages.

It has already been a hugely productive year for Eagles, who ended their 10-year wait for a trophy after they secured the National Cup in early February at the expense of UCC Demons.

This clash will be an opportunity for Killester to gain some revenge after Eagles ended their interest in the National Cup at the semi-final stage.

In the other quarter-final, Bord Gais Neptune will carry the tag of favourites as they prepare to take on UCD Marian at the Neptune Stadium. Neptune secured home advantage after their comprehensive win over Moycullen last weekend and recent addition Michael Bonaparte will add real experience to Mark Scannell's charges.

UCD have endured a frustrating season but they will see their trip to Neptune as an opportunity to make amends.

Neptune will go into this meeting on the back of three consecutive wins over Marian this season. In October, they inflicted an 85-75 win away to Marian, before making a return trip to Belfield in November and winning by 14 points. In February, Neptune had 18 points to spare over their Dublin rivals.

In the Nivea Women's SuperLeague quarter-finals, DCU Mercy will be favourites to prevail against a Meteors side they have already secured two wins against this season.

Mercy have plenty of unfinished business after losing their National Cup crown to UL in February. Meteors' progression to the play-off stages is considerable progress after a frustrating season last term.

11890 Killester are another side to have enjoyed a marked improvement this season, but they face a tricky outing at home to Waterford Wildcats. Killester will be wary considering they have already been on the receiving end of a Wildcats defeat this season. However, they did turn around that loss to beat the Munster outfit.
