Interpro's finest set to get new Caffrey award

TABLE TENNIS: A new award honouring Irish table tennis legend Tommy Caffrey will go to the player of the tournament at the weekend's Interprovincial Championships in Castlebar, Co Mayo.

Caffrey, who won his first Irish Open title in 1963 and accumulated a massive 151 senior international caps, has represented Leinster at the Interprovincials every year since 1958 -- a truly remarkable record.

Meanwhile, the STIGA Junior Challenger Series moved out of Leinster for the first time last week, heading west for Foxford Sport and Leisure Centre, in Co Mayo.

In the open draw, there were no age groups and boys and girls played against each other, with prizes of table tennis equipment for the first four in each division.
