Hugh Byrne of the Track Commission received a call from Dublin Corporation during the week. He was requested to go to the Eamonn Ceannt Stadium in Sundrive, Crumlin. He was aghast at the damage that had been caused to the track surface by vandals.
Hugh issued a statement which was not pleasant reading. "Due to a wilful act of vandalism (too mild a word!) on the track at Sundrive, the track is closed until further notice. Four plastic barriers were set alight on four separate parts of the track and the tar at those points has been destroyed."
Track commission members met with the authorities recently and the good news is that money will be available to fix the damage, but a number of championships are on the back burner until next season.
