Hotshot Higgins scores four as Dhúlaigh capture Shield

COLáISTE DHúLAIGH and Courtney Higgins were unstoppable in their 5-1 win against Larkin Community College in the Junior Shield final at the CDVEC Girls Soccer Finals at Coláiste íde, Finglas.

Higgins scored four of Dhúlaigh's five goals with superb finishing to add the Junior Shield to last year's Perpetual Minor Shield in which Higgins scored a hat-trick.

Dhúlaigh were two goals to the good with early strikes from Higgins and their captain Laura Greene. Dhúlaigh's third was the pick of the day with Ciara Gavin's sublime back heel finding Higgins to lead 3-0 at the break.

Higgins claimed her hat-trick with a left-footed half volley after the restart. The U15 international player's fourth soon followed, before Emma Mullen scored a consolation goal for Larkin.

Larkin Community College proved too strong for Ringsend College with a comprehensive 6-1 win to retain the Perpetual Intermediate Cup.

Katie Gaffney's hat-trick, a brace from Jayde Murphy and Shauna Mitchell's late strike sealed the win, with their captain Gugu Banda lifting the cup aloft for the second year running.

Murphy opened the scoring before Gaffney netted two goals inside a minute. Ringsend responded through Niamh Barnes, but Murphy's second left Larkin 4-1 up at the break.

Ringsend's keeper Lara Corcoran pulled off some great saves throughout but couldn't prevent Gaffney from claiming the match ball.

Larkin also won the Perpetual Minor Shield with a 4-2 victory over Marino College. Demi Black's brace and goals from Lauren Fitzgerald and Cara Dunne handed Larkin the silverware.

Chantelle Brady's first-half goal gave Marino a 1-0 advantage at the break. Black struck after the interval with two quick goals to put Larkin in the driving seat.

Fitzgerald and Dunne then added to Marino's woes before Jessica Kirwan scored Marino's second in the dying seconds.
