GER WARD stands on the threshold of history. One more victory and she's in the pitch and putt book of records.
Next week, the Ringcommons course in Balbriggan hosts the National Ladies Strokeplay finals. Along with Clare Keating, Ger, the Portmarnock legend, has won the senior title six times.
The Dubs have done well in the event over the years. Shandon's Teresa McGuigan is a four-time winner, while the late, great Peggy Glenville lifted the title twice.
Peggy's historic score total still stands. Back in 2001 on her own beloved Glenville, Peggy recorded a magnificent 28 under par over the 54 holes.
And with Ward and McGuigan, Peggy also managed to achieve the coveted double of landing the National Strokeplay and Matchplay titles in the same year.
Other Dublin leading ladies that struck strokeplay gold included Sheelagh Elmes (Portmarnock), Gail McDermott (Portmarnock), Georgina Forristal (Shandon), Marie Mallin (Erin's Isle) and Marie Ruddy (Lucan).
