Harrington eight shots behind

BEN MARTIN shot a stunning 10-under-par 62 to take a two-shot lead after the opening round of the Classic of New Orleans yesterday.

The 26-year-old made the turn in 30 and, following birdies on the 10th and 11th, it looked as if he may become just the seventh man in history to shoot a 59 in a PGA Tour event.

A further birdie on 13 followed but the scoring then dried up in windy conditions and he would pick up just one further shot on 17 to move to 10 under and establish a two-shot lead over Andrew Svoboda.

Sweden's Peter Hanson and Korea's Noh Seung-yul were a further shot back with American duo Erik Compton and Chad Collins on six under.

Pádraig Harrington was on two under.
