Five-goal Diggers keep the pressure on Raheny

Glasnevin remain in the title race in the NDSL Under-13A division after this comprehensive win against Swords Manor in Albert College on Friday night.

With several games in hand, the Diggers must keep winning to keep the pressure on current leaders Raheny and, other than for a short spell at the beginning of the second half, the three points were never in danger against the Manor.

The home side opened the scoring after 21 minutes when Michael Murphy crossed to Niall McLoughlin to tap home.

And but for a brave save from Swords 'keeper Craig Smith on the stroke of half time, McLoughlin would have had a second.

The start of the second half was like watching a different game as the visitors pinned the home side back.

Craig Cahill almost headed home a Sam Russell free-kick and then Cahill was denied by Glasnevin 'keeper Jamie Ratcliff.

However, a two-minute spell midway through the second period dampened any hopes the visitors had of getting something from the game.

First Neil Donnelly found the back of the net and then Sean Hayes curled home number three.

It got even better for Glasnevin late on as Hayes found the top corner for his second of the game and Conor Donovan's stunning free-kick in to the same corner made it 5-0.
