First NBA title for LeBron as Heat rise

BASKETBALL: LeBron James led the way with a triple-double as the Miami Heat completed a 4-1 series win over the Oklahoma City Thunder to secure the NBA title.

The forward racked up 26 points, 13 assists and 11 rebounds as he collected the first title of his illustrious career.

Roche and Martin in Le Tour

cycling: Ireland will have two starters in this year's Tour de France.

Nicolas Roche had already been selected by his French Ag2r La Mondiale team before last week's Tour de Suisse, and his cousin Dan Martin was yesterday confirmed as part of the Garmin Barracuda squad for the three-week stage race.

Martin, 25, nephew of Stephen Roche, is the highest-ranked Irish professional, and is 20th in the UCI standings this week.

Pacquiao closer to rematch

BOXING: Manny Pacquiao has moved closer to a rematch against Timothy Bradley after the World Boxing Organisation declared their belief that the Filipino should have won their June 9 bout.

Bradley wrested the WBO welter-weight title via a controversial split decision. The WBO commissioned a panel of five international judges to view the bout, with all five scoring in favour of Pacquiao.

Moriarty proves best of Irish

GOLF: At the Scottish Hydro Challenge, Colm Moriarty was the best placed Irishman after carding a one-over-par round of 72, eight shots off the lead, at Macdonald Spey Valley Golf Club. David Higgins carded a four-over-par round of 75 while Gary Murphy hit a a six-over-par 77.
