Fernandez comes to fore as Oatlands see off St Nathy's

Oatlands College 61

St Nathy's Roscommon 59

Oatlands College overcame an eight-point deficit from the first quarter to pull off a fantastic win away to St Nathy's, Roscommon on Monday.

Nathy's hurt Oatlands on the fast break early but the Dubliners' decision to stick in and press was to prove a wise one.

The second quarter saw both teams in full flow, with Billy Fernandez (pictured) registering eight points to cut the hosts' lead to just four points, 35-31, at the break.

In the third quarter, Daumantas Butkas (five points) had a great rebounding performance, but Nathy's stayed in the game with their guard registering six points as the Roscommon team took a one-point lead into the final quarter.

However, inspired by Fernandez, who hit eight of his team's 15 points in the last quarter, Oatlands were to finally seal a famous win when Tom Kakilala scored a massive free throw with 45 seconds left.
