Fantastic Finian's march to maiden Memorial Cup

St Finian's College Mullingar won the Geraldine Dolan Memorial Cup for the first time after a close battle with Virginia College and St Oliver PP Oldcastle at the Geraldine Dolan Memorial Schools Cross-Country in Ballinacree, Co Meath last week.

Michael Flood of Oldcastle retained the senior boys' title after a close battle with Niall Cornyn from St Peter's Dunboyne. Rosanne Healy led St Finian's to a clean sweep in the senior girls' race.

Conor Rennicks of Kells Community School led from the start to retain his intermediate title with Sarah Armstrong Eureka Kells winning the girls' race.

Shane Hughes of CBS Mullingar was an impressive winner of the junior boys' race, while Alan Clarke in third led St Oliver PP Oldcastle to the team title.

Rose Finnegan of Eureka Kells won the junior girls' race having won the Meath W16 title at the same venue two days earlier.

Best in the minor races were Patrick Shaw from Mullingar of the boys and Nicola Duffy from St Peter's Dunboyne who was the first winner of the day in the minor girls' race. More than 450 athletes from 18 schools ran in eight races.
