Eight the bait for Cork

DON'T mind the drive for five -- Cork are going for eight-in-a-row at tomorrow's National Gents Inter-County Championship at St Anne's.

On home soil, they are hotly tipped to do it. St Anne's is on the northside of Cork. Its tree-lined fairways are a picture.

Dublin won't be far from the leader-board. The Dubs have suffered at Cork's dominance, finishing runners-up in 2004, 2007 and 2008.

Dublin last took the title in 1999. A formidable selection will wear the blue blazers -- JR Crangle (Loughlinstown), George McGreal (Old County), Derek Courtney (Glenville), Anthony Malone (Lucan), Darren O'Reilly (CPM) and Stephen Murray (Old County).

The ladies' event tees off today. Dublin are the holders and seek their 19th crown. They have experience and craft on board in Geraldine Ward (Portmarnock), Sheelagh Elmes (Portmarnock), Maree O'Toole (Shandon), Ger Holland (RGSC), Barbara Furlong (Lucan) and Siobhan Keely (RGSC).

The hosts have put huge preparations into the course. The stage couldn't be in any better shape. Large Leeside audiences are expected.
