Dunshaughlin is the original

Entry is still open for Saturday's Dunshaughlin 10km (7.30) - Ireland's first 10km, first held in 1979. Back then, 39 turned out for the race; last year, a total of 886 lined out.

A top-class entry is guaranteed by the prize fund of almost €4,000, including course record bonuses of €500 sponsored by The Run Hub. Noel Cullen's men's record of 29 mins 21 secs dates back to 2000, while Lizzie Lee (pictured) delivered the women's best of 34 mins 8 secs in 2013.

Entry costs just €15 with a technical t-shirts for the first 500 entries and the celebrated post race party likely to carry some revellers into midsummers day.
