Demons shoot at Eagles

The undefeated pair of UCC Demons and UL Eagles square off this weekend in a top-of-the-table clash in the Nivea For Men's Superleague.

Demons and Eagles are the sole remaining undefeated sides after three rounds.

Demons will perhaps feel the more fortunate of the two to hold a three-win, no-loss record as they narrowly defeated Cork city rivals Bord Gáis Neptune last week after escaping Galway with an eight-point victory in their opening game.

Eagles also struggled against Neptune, relying on a last-second basket by Rob Taylor to see them through, but have steamrolled their way through all other opposition.

At the far end of the spectrum, either Neptune or Moycullen will earn their first win of the campaign when they meet in Galway. Moycullen will feel like their season has yet to truly begin after disjointed efforts in the first three weeks.

In their opener they narrowly missed out on taking down Demons despite having their top playmaker and player coach, Salva Camps, thrown out of the game for a tough foul.

Since then, they have been without Camps through injury and regular top-scorer Cian Nihill (left). Both are said to be returning this weekend.

Meanwhile, Neptune head coach Mark Scannell must be wondering how he finds himself without a win. Apart from their two defeats by Eagles and Demons courtesy of last-second shots, Neptune's other defeat came away from home against a formidable UCD Marian team, when they lost by six points.

Marian will need to be at their best again this weekend when they travel across Dublin to play DCU Saints, last year's league finalists and a team in form after back-to-back wins.

In the Nivea Women's Superleague, luckless Liffey Celtics host Killester and will try to repair some of the damage from last weekend's drubbing by DCU Mercy while Mercy aim to continue the momentum when they play WIT Wildcats.
