Crunch time for Killester

It is a double-header of north Dublin derby action this weekend in the Nivea Superleagues as the Killester men and women take on DCU Saints and Meteors respectively tonight.

With the two games tipping off one after another from 6pm in the IWA hall in Clontarf, a packed house is expected as Killester aim to right wrongs from last week when both their top tier teams lost in Limerick.

There is further double-bill action today as Killester's conquerors from last weekend, UL Huskies and UL Eagles, hope to produce similar results when they welcome Singleton SuperValu Brunell and Moycullen to University of Limerick Arena.

Elsewhere, Waterford Wildcats host the formidable Team Montenotte Hotel Cork while DCU Mercy and Liffey Celtics face off in Dublin in the sole Sunday Superleague fixture of the weekend.

This is the third weekend of Nivea for Men's Superleague action and supporters of all the teams will be anxious to gauge where their sides stand.

One of the most difficult to place so far has been an uncharacteristically unsettled Killester who opened up the season with a win at home against UCD Marian before being crushed at UL Eagles in a 25-point loss.

This weekend they face fellow league title hopefuls Saints who, after losing their opener, got back to winning ways against Moycullen last week.

Someone is going to have to drop to a losing record and suffer a blow to their league title aspirations in a game too close to call but one which should tell a lot about both teams.

In Limerick, current table-toppers UL Eagles face the tricky challenge of Moycullen.

While the in-season series of games between these two teams last year was one of the more gripping between any two sides (with two games decided by a point and a win for each), Eagles look to be too strong at the moment as the young Galway outfit battle with several key injuries.
