Three Cork clubs have received suspended sanctions following their decisions not to travel out of province for games in the EY Hockey League this month over Covid-19 concerns.
Cork Harlequins did not field against Muckross on September 26 or Belfast Harlequins last weekend in the top tier of the women's league while UCC and Cork C of I did not travel to Monkstown and Trinity, respectively.
All felt such trips fell into the "unnecessary travel" Government advice for level 3 areas but Hockey Ireland received an exemption from Sport Ireland for these competitions.
Not fielding comes with hefty penalties - a 5-0 defeat and home advantage of a future fixture forfeited. Hockey Ireland suspended those sanctions, but they'll kick in if there is a subsequent breach this season.
