Bolt equals the season's best

ATHLETICS: Usain Bolt equalled the fastest 100 metres in the world this year as he eased through the heats at the Jamaican National Championships and Olympic trials.

Olympic champion and world record holder Bolt clocked a time of 9.76 seconds in Kingston as one of four men to go under 10 seconds. World champion Yohan Blake and former world record holder Asafa Powell each ran 9.84 in their heats, while Lerone Clarke ran 9.99.

Wiggins feels like it's going to be his Tour

Cycling: Bradley Wiggins is full of confidence ahead of his challenge to become the first British winner of the Tour de France.

Wiggins crashed out of last year's race with a broken collarbone but starts in Liege tomorrow highly fancied

"I really feel this could be my year. It's simply the way I've felt all season, and that's how it was in 2008," Wiggins said.

Lemaitre sure he'll be faster in London

Athletics: Christophe Lemaitre stormed to gold in the 100m final at the European athletics championships last night in 10.09 seconds, a time he vowed to better at the London Olympics.

"I have a lot of confidence and I'm sure I can run faster at the Olympics," the Frenchman said reporters after beating compatriot Jimmy Vicaut by 0.03 seconds. Norway's Jaysuma Saidy Ndure came in third in 10.17.

Wall standing firm

Boxing: Kerry underage footballer Brian Wall was aiming to edge a step closer to gold at the 16th European Junior Championships in Bulgaria today.

Wall is up against Hungarian Zolt Kovacs for a place in tomorrow's middleweight final in Sofia. "I'm expecting a tough bout, but he's beatable. I'm confident," said the Irish champion.
