Basketball: Inter must face up to Demons

After last weekend's upsets and close calls, the Nivea For Men's SuperLeague enters week seven full of unanswered questions.

UCC Demons remain undefeated despite yet another close call, most recently against Killester. Today, they travel to the capital to play the still largely unknown entity that is Dublin Inter.

Inter hung with defending champions UL Eagles in Limerick last Saturday for large stretches of the game, leading at half-time by two points. They then went on to be demolished in the third and fourth quarters, eventually losing by 28 points.

The first-year SuperLeague club proved that they are good enough to play with the best through their opening-half. An upset could be on the cards in the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght if Demons continue to wait until the fourth quarter to secure wins.

Fresh off their first win of the year, away to UCD Marian last Saturday, Moycullen look to make it two from two against Dublin teams when they welcome DCU Saints to Galway this weekend.

The youngest team in the league, Moycullen, outlasted Marian in a double-overtime thriller to earn that vital first victory.

The confidence from that display, on the road, could be the inspiration to see them compile more wins before Christmas.

Saints will be no pushover, however. A team with huge experience, they may have too much physicality for the talented but youthful Moycullen guards.

Meanwhile, the rivalry between Killester and UL Eagles is rekindled. Eagles, who are led by former Killester head coach Mark Keenan, crushed the northsiders when the two teams met earlier this season.

The hope for Killester will be that the always infectious atmosphere of the IWA Clontarf will be a telling difference this time around. A more significant difference would for them be to discover some way to handle Jason Kileen, who scored 20 points when they met in October.

The final match on the SuperLeague card pits Bord Gáis Neptune against UCD Marian.
