BASKETBALL: Presentation Bray, under Marie O'Toole, are through to the U19 Eastern Regional final after a 66-48 win over St Fintan's High School at their home gym on Tuesday.
In a repeat of last season's All Ireland decider, Bray started slowly as a Fintans side led up front by Dylan Kessie stormed into a 23-9 lead.
But with Marc Lennon giving an outstanding display in the point-guard position, the seasiders cut Fintan's lead to 27-26 by half-time.
And with Luke Gorman dominating in the rebounding stakes, Bray were able to forge ahead in the second half with Andy Bartley dominating under the Fintan's boards.
Despite the valiant efforts of Dean Creegan and Conor McCracken, Fintans were unable to close the gap and must now go through the play-off route in order to get out of Leinster.
The U16s, meanwhile, will play Ard Scoil Ris next week in their semi-final despite losing to Oatlands in their final group game.
Missing three starters, Bray, through Shane Davidson (23 pts) and Dylan Terry (17 pts), held a 53-46 lead heading into the final quarter before Oatlands pressure defence caused several costly Pres Bray turnovers as Oatlands won out on a 65-63 scoreline.
