Barry's US Open dream comes to an end at the Meadows

SAM BARRY'S US Open Junior tournament dream is over after losing to Damir Dzumhur last night.

Barry was beaten 6-4, 6-2 by Dzumhur of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Limerick teenager also went out at the second round stage of the Boy's Doubles after he and Ben McLachlan (New Zealand) were beaten by the Brazilian pairing of Karue Sell and Bruno Semenzato.

Dubliner John Morrissey also made his exit earlier in the tournament.

The 18-year-old has had a busy summer, competing in both Roland Garros and Wimbledon after making the main draw at the Australian Open last January.

Most recently, he progressed to the quarter-finals at the World Youth Olympic Games in Singapore, but narrowly lost 7-6 (4) 7-6 (7) to American player Michael Zhu in the opening round of the qualifier in Flushing Meadow. Zhu is world ranked 158, well below Morrissey's current ranking of 46.

For the doubles at Flushing Meadow, Morrissey teamed up with Ben Wagland of Australia, while Sam Barry partnered McLachlan.

Playing in the Flushing Meadows event for the first time, Barry beat Nick Chappell of the USA in the first round of the main draw before last night's exit at the hands of Dzumhur..

The Limerick junior has showed improving form all summer and in July took three good scalps to make the quarter-finals of the European Junior Championships. He has moved up the rankings to 66 from 99 at the end of last year.

James McGee was in action at the Germany Futures in Kempten. Playing on clay, he had a tough opening match against Austrian Joel Lindner but came through 6-2 6-7 (8) 7-6 (5). Against France's Albano Olivetti, he had an easier time of it, winning 6-2 6-4. In the quarter-finals, he lost in straight sets to German player Andre Wiesler.
