All eyes on Zaidan in Castlebar

CYCLING: The last of the Irish championships on the road takes place tomorrow in Castlebar -- base of the TFH/Castlebar CC.

Organiser John Brennan has gone to great care to make the National Junior (men's and women's) and A3 Championships (men) memorable.

Obviously one name to jump out from the participants is Stevens Cycleogical CC's Darragh Zaidan.

Darragh will be part of the folklore of Irish cycling for years to come as he won the final stage of the JT.

He beat all the competitors on that particular Sunday back in July when he successfully negotiated the level crossing at Foxford.

His fellow cyclists got held up, and with international race rules in his back pocket, he went on to win the stage.

As far as the A3 championships go, this could be a minefield as regards a winner. But Alan Loftus of An Siopa Rothair in Limerick may just get his reward with a medal.
