At the age of 14, Aisling Clancy of St Mary's Naas, became the youngest Irish player ever to make a national volleyball squad, making a vital contribution to the Irish effort at the European Junior qualifiers last season.

In December, she helped St Mary's to the Senior League title and, last week, led her school's cadette team to a cup final victory. Her own contribution, as captain and player, proved crucial. Few others can match her inch-perfect hits, determined blocking, swirling serves and uncanny ability to read the game.

It meant she added yet another MVP award to a growing collection. Bad news for other schools is that at the age of 16, Clancy isn't going away any time soon!
