200 not out for Gormley as Ireland take on the Germans

Ronan Gormley will become the first Irish man to reach 200 international caps when he lines out for Ireland against Olympic champions Germany next Monday in Krefeld, Germany.

With the World League 3 qualifier for Rio '16 coming up next month in Antwerp, the two ties against the Germans are vital preparation for the Irish.

Gormley, from Clonskeagh, Dublin, made his international debut in August 2004 against India in Leverkusen and went on to captain the side over 50 times.

Fittingly, Gormley hits the 200-mark at the German league club where he has played for the past three seasons.

This will be the first major outing for the Irish men since their win at the World League 2 in San Diego last March.

"This series is very important to kick start our preparations. Four days away together against this standard of opposition is ideal for us to connect again quickly.

"Going by last weekend's training in Dublin, we are in good condition," says Gormley.
