He's the Boxing Union of Ireland's Fighter of the Year, but unfortunately Dublin's WBO European lightweight champion Stephen Ormond can't get to box in his home town.
The Rock will defend his title on Carl Frampton's card at Belfast's Odyssey on April 4. The Clondalkin man claimed his European title when he demolished Adam Mate in London. He's defended the belt in London and against Derry Matthews in Liverpool.
Ormond's experienced opponent Karim El Ouazghari (16-4-2, 4KO) went 12 rounds with John Murray for the EBU lightweight title.
"There can be no easy fights for Stephen now," says coach Paschal Collins. "To move up the rankings and get a world title shot, he needs to be beating credible opponents."
Ormond's Belfast bout with El Diablo will be screened by Frank Warren's Box Nation. "Frank's explained that bringing his television crew to Dublin would be so costly there'd need to be a few more big title bouts on the bill.
"Stephen is preparing to a world title bout level," insists Collins.
