Meet your heroes this Friday

tMEET your heroes this Friday night when members of Jim Gavin's Dublin senior football and Anthony Daly's senior hurling teams do a 'meet and greet' at Ballyboden St Enda's club grounds (Firhouse Road) at 7pm.

The Dubs have their eyes on long summer days in both codes – the footballers, fresh from their NFL Division 1 success, while the hurlers will be fired up to bounce back from their NHL Division 1 semi-final defeat to Tipp.

So this is the last chance saloon to see your Dublin heroes up close before they hit the Championship road.

• THE Electric Eights are lighting up Whitehall. They are out training twice a week and taking part in the CC1 League every Saturday morning.

And according to mentor, Conor Keegan, the Colmcille's Colts are a class act.

"They have been brilliant for the club," says Conor.

"We have 40 in the panel, boys and girls, and they are really enjoying their football and hurling. They bring such enthusiasm to training and match day."

The squad were boosted by the recent sponsorship from Lorcan Construction.

"They are a local builder in the parish and they supplied lovely training tops for all the kids. We really appreciate their gesture," states Conor.

And now the Whitehall Wizards are walking even taller than ever.

• NAOMH MEARNóG are staging an attractive senior football inter-county challenge match this Saturday as Cork meet Derry at the Portmarnock venue (2.0).

Both counties have more than one eye on the championship. Conor Counihan's Cork play Limerick at the Gaelic Grounds on May 25, while Derry, managed by Brian McIver, have a June 2 date with Down at Celtic Park.

Both managers are busy fine-tuning their plans, and they are not coming to the seaside to hire out the deck chairs.

• THE St Sylvester's U8s will be kept in the picture this term as welcome sponsorship has arrived from GAApics.com.

There's plenty of fine hurlers and footballers in the super Syls squad, and their focus is always on the ball, big and small.
