Lucan's young Super Sars on green carpet

LUCAN had a night to remember last Friday. It was the presentation of their U21 Hurling Championship medals.

The Sars enjoyed a splendid campaign which included wins over Ballinteer St John's, Cuala and St Brigid's.

And in the final, they showed guile and grit to defeat Ballyboden St Enda's.

The Lucan team is packed with class personnel, and their confidence grew following their opening victory over Ballinteer, the 2013 champs.

Manager, Fintan Clandillon, has high praise for the panel. And indeed Fintan and his managerial colleagues deserve huge credit for the success as they kept things fresh by focusing more on challenge matches rather than training for the busy players.

Marty's party surprise

BUSY times for Marty Morrissey, who appeared in John B Keane's Moll at The Gaiety last week.

For the past while, Marty has been presenting in the old Derek Mooney slot on RTE radio.

He did a superb job. His relaxed style is so suited to radio.

Seán Boylan was on during the week. He was saying that nothing compared to the games involving Dublin and Meath.

And, even in retirement, he still enjoys the banter, as he related:

"I was walking down Clonliffe Road when a Dublin supporter came over to me, put his arm around me and said: 'Ah Seán, you are a Meath man, but we all know there's a Dub in there trying to get out'!"

Come join the Gaels

THE U14 footballers of St James Gaels are looking to strength their squad.

Managed by Molly Hand and coached by Brian O'Neill, they were champions last term.

They have been busy gearing up to the new season with challenge matches. Thornton's Recycling have come on board as sponsors.

Players born in 2000/2001 are most welcome.

Training takes place at the Iveagh Grounds on the Crumlin Road on Monday and Wednesday evening.
