JOHN Giles believes that Brendan Rodgers is now faced with a massive dilemma following Liverpool's decision to sign Mario Balotelli from AC Milan for £16m.

"I couldn't quite believe what I was hearing," said Ireland's top football analyst. "They just got rid of one trouble-maker, Luis Suarez, and now they've brought in another."

"First and foremost, I cannot believe that Brendan Rodgers made the decision. A few weeks ago, Rodgers stated very clearly what he felt about the idea. If he doesn't want him, he should walk away."

Giles refers to a quote from Rodgers ruling out any interest in Balotelli which came a day after feverish speculation was triggered by some fulsome praise from the Anfield boss for European football's favourite loose cannon.

"I can categorically tell you Mario Balotelli will not be at Liverpool," said Rodgers when asked about possible interest while he was in Miami to play Manchester United. Giles believes that this is more than enough evidence to deduce that the decision to bring Balotelli in is not the manager's.

"Anyone reading that can only think that he didn't want Balotelli and, let's be honest, why would he? He saw what everyone saw. He saw how badly Balotelli behaved at Manchester City, how disruptive he was. He does the same wherever he is."
