Irish trio hope to stay on track for Rio Olympic qualification

TRIATHLETES Aileen Reid and Conor Murphy (inset) warmed up for today's World Triathlon Series in Abu Dhabi by both finishing fifth at the Tinonman Sprint Triathlon in San Diego, USA last weekend.

In the men's race, Murphy was fourth after the 750m swim and held on to that position on the 40km cycle. He dropped one place on the 5km run to finish fifth in 56 minutes and six seconds.

Reid was sixth after the swim, then producing the quickest cycle of the day to move up to fifth place, which she held on to on the run, finishing in 60 minutes 30 seconds.

Reid, Murphy and Bryan Keane are on the start list for Abu Dhabi, the first race in a season where Olympic qualification is at stake. Deadline is May 2016, when the top 55 men and women in the rankings book their places for Rio.

Both Reid and Keane are currently well placed in the top 55.
