IRELAND U21 cap Danny Rogers will see out the season with Scottish second-tier side Dumbarton after Aberdeen agreed to extend his loan.

Goalkeeper Rogers has impressed since joining Dumbarton on loan earlier this season and his appearance in Saturday's 3-1 defeat away to Rangers, in front of a crowd of 30,000 at Ibrox, was his 19th game of the season.

The 20-year-old's loan spell was due to end this week but Aberdeen have now given him permission to finish the season with Dumbarton.

"I'm pleased we've sorted Danny's situation out for the rest of the season," said manager Ian Murray.

Aberdeen are enjoying their finest season in some years and they stretched their lead at the top of the SPL table with a win over Motherwell yesterday, Dubliner Adam Rooney twice on target for the Dons.

Rooney is now on 19 goals in 27 games for the SPL side this season while fellow Dubliner Willo Flood reappeared off the bench after a two-month absence due to injury.

Keeper Rogers (inset), who made his Ireland U21 debut in 2014, has yet to feature for the first team but his experience of playing in places like Ibrox will help the Dubliner next season as he aims to push for a first team place.
