Howard praises Gibson

EVERTON star Tim Howard has praised the form of Ireland star Darron Gibson and believes that the Derry man has filled a void that's been at the club since Lee Carsley left.

Gibson has been in superb form for the Toffees and 'keeper Howard says he's benefiting from the protection that Gibson offers to his goal.

"You need your holding midfielder to protect the back four. Darron has done great for us in a number of aspects - but particularly in anchoring the midfield," says Howard.

"Frankly, since Lee Carsley left we haven't had somebody in that mould. To have a guy in there who likes to roll his sleeves up and who wants to be known as part of that unit really helps."

GALWAY'S football community has decided to honour the city's first Ireland international, Eamon Deacy, by renaming Terryland Park.

Galway's main football venue will now be called Deacy Park as a tribute to the ex-international, who passed away suddenly last month.

LEEDS UNITED will offer a new deal to Ireland U21 star Aidan White in a bid to fend off Premier League interest.

"We are finalising a contract offer for him in the next seven days or so," said Leeds boss Neil Warnock.
