Regal set for a hurdles Encore

REGAL ENCORE will have plenty of entries in the coming days as connections look to give last season's Weatherbys Champion Bumper runner-up a second outing over hurdles.

The five-year-old, owned by JP McManus, has been given engagements in novice events at Leicester and Plumpton on Monday. He will also be put in similar races at Warwick on Wednesday and Chepstow on Thursday.

Trainer Anthony Honeyball was pleased with Regal Encore's first run over hurdles despite being beaten into second place by Garde La Victoire at Aintree last month.

"I don't know where we're going to go. He's in good order and we're looking to run him somewhere soon," said Honeyball.

"We are in that slot now where we are ready to run him again.

"As well as those two on Monday he'll have entries at Warwick and Chepstow, although it might be a bit deep there. He'd handle the ground, but I don't want to pull the life out of him.

"Basically he'll be entered for lots of two-mile novice hurdles. We've got lots of options ground-wise. We'll pick one and see where we go from there.

"He's jumping really nicely and hopefully racing at speed will improve him.

"He was a bit novicey at Aintree as you'd expect and he will have learnt a bit from it."
