Melbourne Cup could be within the Rules

Reflecting back on last week at Galway and I was pretty impressed by Dermot Weld's Forgotten Rules on Friday night.

It was interesting to see a bumper winner pitch into that company but I know as well as anyone how much Dermot loves Galway and is more than capable of bringing some good horses there.

Forgotten Rules is now definitely on the shortlist for big targets later in the year, including the Melbourne Cup I would say.

It was a good performance and he is definitely on the upward curve, possibly even one of the likely favourites if he did go to Melbourne.

All of that will depend on the horse and if he was to go it would depend on how he takes the trip - a horse of that age - but Dermot definitely knows what he has.

At Goodwood, fantastic courage shown by Missunited and hopefully she is going to have a good time at stud.

Jim Crowley said she could have broken down at the furlong pole but she kept going and showed tremendous determination.

She was an excellent race mare and it was great to see her sign off in such a fashion, plus it was really good for Mick Winters.

It will be interesting to see what sire they go to, but I would have thought the fact that she has a lot of stamina will mean they will try and inject a bit of speed.

I suppose we didn't learn much from Kingman at Goodwood other than he is probably the best miler around. It was a tactical affair but he was brilliant to overcome it all.
