Master poised for Victor bid Rupert ready for Argento

Master Minded owner Clive Smith is hoping the eight-year-old's good run can continue in Saturday's Victor Chandler Chase at Ascot, in which the dual Queen Mother Champion Chase hero will head a field of nine.

"We are looking forward to it," said the owner.

"He's actually had an uninterrupted season this season as opposed to last year when he appeared to have that cracked rib just before Christmas then we had him off training for a month.

"Although he raced well enough in the Game Sprit, he obviously didn't quite get back to his best, but he seems pretty good this year so we'll see how he goes."

Rupert ready for Argento

Time For Rupert is primed to step up to full company for the Argento Chase at Cheltenham on Saturday week.

"He's very well indeed," said trainer Paul Webber. "He worked at the weekend and we might take him somewhere to work on grass this week before he goes for the Argento at Cheltenham a week on Saturday. That race fits in well, and he loves Cheltenham."

Time For Rupert is the general 5/2 favourite for the RSA Chase at the Festival, while he is a best-priced 33/1 with Stan James for the totesport Cheltenham Gold Cup.

Midnight's on course for Cup

Neil Mulholland reports his totesport Cheltenham Gold Cup hope Midnight Chase, a lively 20/1 outsider, to be well on target for the March showpiece.

"We're happy with him, he looks superb and is very well in his coat. He looks great," said Mulholland. "He's not doing anything spectacular.

"He's just chipping away and fingers crossed he'll be 100 per cent on the day."
