Lightning Thunder aims to strike

Dual Classic runner-up Lightning Thunder is likely to be given the chance to gain a confidence-boosting victory at Haydock this weekend.

The Olly Stevens-trained filly was narrowly beaten by Miss France in the English 1000 Guineas and found only Marvellous too strong in the Irish equivalent.

She was not disgraced when ninth in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot and was due to run in last Friday's Thoroughbred Stakes at Goodwood before being taken out on the morning of the race.

Stevens hopes his charge will be back on top form for Saturday's Betfred TV/EBF Stallions Dick Hern Fillies' Stakes on Merseyside, for which there are 23 entries.
