Irish Guineas up next for Greine

Gile Na Greine is to skip the Tattersalls Musidora Stakes at York this week in favour of a crack at the Irish 1000 Guineas at the Curragh on May 23.

The Jim Bolger-trained English Guineas third is prominent in the betting for the Investec Oaks at Epsom, but will have a second Classic tilt rather than a trial before any further plans are made.

Bolger said: "Gile Na Greine is going to go for the Irish Guineas.

"I never committed her to York and I think she deserves a proper shot at a Classic. The Irish Guineas is the best chance she has to do that and we will take it step by step beyond that.

"I would have been more delighted with her at Newmarket if the other two (Special Duty and Jacqueline Quest) had started to drift earlier and she hadn't received two smacks from the whip of the fourth horse.

"Gold Bubbles will run in the Musidora, but it will not be easily won and you would have to think that Henry Cecil's filly (Aviate) would have a good chance."

Concorde set on course for Ascot

Majestic Concorde could be Royal Ascot-bound following his valiant effort in the Chester Cup.

Trainer Dermot Weld is considering sending the dual purpose performer to the Berkshire jamboree after he was only beaten a length in fourth place behind Mamlook in the Roodee marathon on Wednesday.

It was a pleasing effort as it was his first outing since he won a two-and-a-half-mile chase at Sligo in early October.

"He had plenty of weight for a seven-year-old and he'd been a long time off so it was an excellent run by him," the Curragh handler said. "It's a possibility he'll go to Royal Ascot as he's an out-and-out stayer."

Tregoning calm about Rum trip

Marcus Tregoning is optimistic new Investec Oaks favourite Rumoush will stay the mile and a half when she has a second crack at Classic glory next month.

The daughter of Rahy is on course for the race following her creditable effort in the 1000 Guineas in which she finished seventh behind the promoted winner Special Duty.

"I hope she'll get the trip," said Tregoning. "I've had a lot of her family and the ones I've had have got the trip.

"Her half-brother Mawatheeq gets it well. He's by Danzig, who is more an influence for speed than Rahy so I think there's a good chance she will."
