Hang hopes on an Irish Portrait

ALEX Ferguson will be hoping to win his local Grand National as his Harry The Viking currently tops the betting for Ayr’s Scottish Grand National tomorrow afternoon.

The Cheltenham Festival runner-up put in a top effort behind the talented Teaforthree last month when his winning sequence of four was brought to an end with that two-length defeat.

He is the 6/1 joint favourite with Boylesports for the extended four-mile contest along with last month’s Ayr winner and the runner-up of this race last year, Merigo.

However, their plots could be foiled by an Irish raider, Portrait King, who has been in great form recently and goes across the water in search of further success.

Maurice Phelan’s hat-trick seeker was an impressive winner on both occasions when winning the Grand National Trial at Punchestown back in early February, before winning the Eider Chase at Newcastle, later that month.

Denis O’Regan has restored the partnership with the seven-year-old, who seems to be adaptable to most sorts of ground so the good, good to soft description shouldn’t be any hindrance.

Nicky Henderson runs a former Irish point-to-point winner in Be There In Five who is a big price at 25/1, and is worth backing each way with Boylesports as they are paying out on the first five places home.
