Fame cut for tilt at Glory

AIDAN O'Brien's Fame And Glory was yesterday cut to 6/4 from 13/8 by bookmaker William Hill as Jamie Spencer gave a bullish update ahead of the six-year-old's assault on a second Ascot Gold Cup next week.

O'Brien won the race four times with the legendary stayer Yeats, and will bid to claim the prestigious event for a seventh time in eight years with Fame And Glory on Thursday next.

Spencer said: "He won the two main staying races there, the one on Champions Day and the Gold Cup itself, so they were good days."

Reflecting on Fame And Glory's seasonal reappearance at Navan when he held off Unaccompanied, Spencer added: "Joseph said he was a bit fresh and keen, but he showed plenty of life.

"He improved from his runs last year when he got to Ascot and I'm sure Aidan will have him in tip-top shape. He's up against good horses like Saddler's Rock and Colour Vision so we will have to see how the race pans out."

Boylesports have installed O'Brien as their favourite to be next week's leading trainer, and they make the Ballydoyle maestro a 4/6 shot to claim that accolade.

Indeed, the bookmakers have it as a two-horse race between O'Brien at 4/6 and Richard Hannon at 5/2 with it being double figures the rest - John Gosden the next best at 10/1.

The betting for leading jockey appears slightly more competitive with Joseph O'Brien a 6/4 shot, while Richard Hughes is a best priced 7/2 with Boylesports and Ryan Moore is priced up at 11/4.

William Hill have a special between Frankel and Black Caviar regarding who will win by the biggest distance, for which Frankel is 1/2 and the Australian filly is 9/4, while the same distance is 6/1.

Paddy Power have also opened up a book on Frankel and Black Caviar and the firm goes 4/6 that they both win at Royal Ascot next week.

Powers go 5/2 about Frankel winning and Black Caviar getting overturned, while a reversal of that with Black Caviar to win and Frankel to lose is 4/1.

A massive upset for both of the superstars to get beat next week is 10/1.
