Emotional victory for Cecil's Riposte

There was hardly a dry eye in the whole of the racing world, let alone Royal Ascot, after the Ribblesdale Stakes win of Riposte brought about the first rapturous reception of the afternoon.

Carrying the colours of the ever loyal Prince Khalid Abdullah and emerging from the Warren Place training establishment made famous by the late, great Henry Cecil, Ripose gave Jane Cecil and jockey Tom Queally an emotional triumph. The owner, who enjoyed famous victories with Frankel and Cecil at the previous meetings at the famous Royal Ascot track, had been one of very few to have stood loyal to Cecil in his quieter seasons and was clearly emotional after the Group Two victory.

It was a sixth winner for Jane Cecil since the sad passing of her husband last week, but a first at the meeting which he made his own by setting an unprecedented record of 75 winners.
