FRANKIE DETTORI is set to return to competitive action "within the next 10 days", said the jockey's business manager Peter Burrell.

Dettori has been sidelined since October 2 when he suffered a fractured ankle in a fall going down to the start before a race at Nottingham.

His injury saw him miss out on the winning ride aboard Treve in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp four days later.

Criquette Head-Maarek's excellent filly is owned by Sheikh Joaan Al Thani, for whom Dettori is retained rider.

The 42-year-old jockey rode out in Newmarket yesterday morning and is now poised to make his comeback on the all-weather winter circuit as he gears up towards the 2014 Flat campaign.

Burrell said: "We might be close to the ultimate comeback.

"He rode out in Newmarket (yesterday morning) and he appears to be progressing towards a comeback within the next 10 days.

"I believe the plan is for him to get a bulk of rides on the all-weather under his belt and he will then go where he is requested to go.

"His last scan last Thursday was all clear and he is top of the range."
