Dark cloud of drugs

WHILE we were all engrossed in the action at Punchestown last week, a dark cloud has been looming over English racing with Mahmood al-Zarooni banned for eight years for administering anabolic steroids to 15 of his Sheikh Mohammed-owned string.

Since that revelation, Gerard Butler has also come into question and looks to be the next to face the wrath of the BHA, and rightly so.

Hopefully this is not going to be the start of a concerning trend, but for the Godolphin outfit of Sheikh Mohammed it was highly embarrassing.

What exactly he knew about the whole thing, none of us can be sure, but let's just hope it was a 'catastrophic error' by Zarooni and it is not something that will crop up again.

Most certainly, let's hope that it is not a dark cloud that will ever visit this country.
