Daam set for Derby

RICHARD Fahey's Mickdaam booked his place in the line-up for next month's Epsom Derby with a determined effort in the MBNA Chester Vase.

Following a stint in Dubai with Mike de Kock, the three-year-old returned to Fahey to finish a fine second in a sales race at Newmarket.

He took another step forward on his first try a mile and a half under Tony Hamilton, holding off the fast-finishing Model Pupil by a nose.

He will now become Fahey's first ever runner in the Investec Derby, for which Paddy Power make him a 33/1 shot from 50/1.

Fahey said: "The horse was with Mike de Kock for the Dubai Carnival, but it was always the intention that he would come back to me.

"I thought he handled the conditions very well.

"He'd only been back (from Dubai) 12 days when he ran at Newmarket last month, so he was entitled to come on for that.

"It will be fantastic to run him in the Derby."
