Concorde joint favourite

Bookmakers Ladbrokes have made recent Paddy Power Chase winner Majestic Concorde and the third-placed Pomme Tiepy joint favourites for the upcoming Thyestes Chase at Gowran Park.

One of the highlights of the winter programme, Thyestes day is the biggest of the year for the Kilkenny track and has again attracted a notable entry for the testing 3m Grade A Handicap Chase.

Dermot Weld's 33/1 winner from Leopardstown would be again bidding to carry top weight to victory and he is priced up at significantly less generous odds of 7/1 for the race in just under a fortnight.

Majestic Concorde went up nine pounds in the handicapper's eyes for his Leopardstown success and beat Pomme Tiepy by eight-and-a-half lengths then giving her 16lbs.

He would now have to try again giving her 23lbs.

Stablemates of Pomme Tiepy's from Willie Mullins' local base are prominent in the betting with Barker and Quiscover Fontaine receiving a quote of 10/1, while on 12/1 are Alpha Ridge and Glenquest.

The latter was a late absentee from the Paddy Power due to a muscle injury having previously finished second in the Troytown at Navan and if taking part he would be getting in off bottom weight.

Last year's winner, Whinstone Boy, who is looking for a repeat for Jimmy Mangan, is made a 14/1 chance by Ladbrokes.

Thyestes Chase - Ladbrokes Bet: 7 Majestic Concorde, 7 Pomme Tiepy, 10 Barker, 10 Quiscover Fontaine, 12 Alpha Ridge, 12 Glenquest, 14 Agus A Vic, 14 Clan Tara, 14 Jayo, 14 Selection Box, 14 The Midnight Club, 14 Whinstone Boy, 16 bar (1/4 odds 1,2,3,4)
