Class colt Rewilding should justify Leger faith

Rewilding is a justifiably short-priced favourite for the Ladbrokes St Leger at Doncaster.

Godolphin's colt has made breathless progress since his arrival in England, and can reach his zenith in Saturday's final Classic of the season.

It will be considered folly in some quarters to support a much-touted market leader given the strength in depth of the opposition.

That said, the Mahmood Al Zarooni-trained Rewilding increasingly has the look of the proverbial good thing and should be ardently followed.

The former Andre Fabre recruit made quite a splash on his British debut when simply running amok in the Cocked Hat Stakes at Goodwood -- forcing connections to supplement him into the Derby, although he was blatantly left hamstrung by the exacting undulations of the Surrey venue.

His return to action at a more conventional track at the Great Voltigeur, however, rubber-stamped his unquestionable class.

Rewilding was faultless at York, turning the renowned Leger trial into nothing more than a light hack.

What is more, the manner in which he has stayed on towards the line in each of his starts this term would suggest the Leger's mile-and-three-quarter trip will hold no terrors.

Waiter's Dream can also do the business in the curtain-raising Neptune Investment Management Champagne Stakes. Brian Meehan's colt was really impressive when sauntering clear in the Acomb at York and looks a hard act to follow back over seven furlongs.

Godolphin can again get on the scoresheet in the Eddie Stobart Park Stakes courtesy of Shakespearean.

He is clearly back to somewhere near his best and will be unfazed if the rain arrives before the weekend.

The ever imponderable puzzle that is the Ladbrokes Portland could go the way of Hogmaneigh for a second time.

Decent racing is also available at Goodwood, where Poet looks the stand-out performer for the Whiteley Clinic Select Stakes.

The same can also be said of Harris Tweed, whose second in the Bahrain Trophy at Newmarket puts him bang in the frame for the freebets.co.uk Stand Cup at Chester.

Classic action can be savoured at the Curragh, with Sans Frontieres taken to strike in the Irish Field St Leger.

Zoffany, Ballydoyle's upwardly mobile colt, should also emerge from the boylesports.com Vincent O'Brien National Stakes with his reputation firmly intact.
