After a lot of good midweek action over the last fortnight, this weekend is arguably the calm before the Epsom storm at the end of the month.

However, tomorrow at Newbury, the Group One Lockinge Stakes features and looks an intriguing renewal.

Trainer Aidan O'Brien will bid to continue his recent successful spell of landing decent pots on that side of the Irish Sea, and is likely to saddle the favourite, Declaration Of War.

A winner on testing ground over a mile and a quarter and a mile and three furlongs, Declaration Of War is unbeaten in three starts for O'Brien, but faces his toughest test since joining Ballydoyle.

His biggest challenge could well come in the shape of Roger Charlton's consistent Cityscape, which the Betting Book will side with.

Without a win since scoring on World Cup night at Meydan more than a year ago, Cityscape has run to a very consistent level since then, including when following home Excelebration on a couple of occasions, and gets the tentative vote at odds of 4/1.

At Newmarket, the Coral Sprint will be the biggest betting heat and, in this, Ralph Beckett's Lewisham is 14/1, but can be trusted to step up on his recent win on the all-weather to land a big blow under Richard Kingscote.
