Bellini seems set to sparkle in sprint saga at York

THERE are 18 Irish runners at Newmarket tomorrow afternoon and quite a few of them hold a high profile, but there is one Irish raider at York who should not be overlooked on a busy day of action.

Dublin trainer Aido McGuinness will send Bubbly Bellini to York for the Coral Sprint Cup as the outfit look for a second big pot in a fortnight for the five-year-old.

The Gary Devlin-owned sprinter has been a really good servant for connections, especially this season after he racked up a three-timer in just six days back in June as well as also being placed four times in that month.

Since then, Bubbly Bellini landed the Rockingham at the Curragh in July on soft ground and most recently ran out a very convincing winner of the Joe McGrath Handicap at HQ at the end of last month.

An ease in the ground at York would appear to be a big plus for the Mull Of Kintyre gelding who will once again be partnered by promising three-pound claimer Ian Brennan, a young rider who has blossomed back in his native land this season and racked up a great rapport with Bubbly Bellini in particular. Incidentally, McGuinness and Brennan will be hot-footing it to Wolverhampton after their business in York as they also have a runner there when Golan Heights lines up in the extended nine-furlongs handicap at 7.15.

Of the large number of horses heading to Newmarket, Dawn Approach is obviously the best of them, but his trainer Jim Bolger has some other interesting participants at the sports.

Wexford Opera could defy his price by running a big race in the Middle Park Stakes, while it will be interesting to see how Group One Moyglare Stud runner-up Scintillula fares in the Vision.ae Rockfel Stakes.

Aside from Dawn Approach, it is Trading Leather that is Bolger's most intriguing runner of the afternoon.

The Wexford native sends over this Teofilo colt after his seven-length Gowran Park maiden win three weeks ago when he franked the form of highly regarded Battle Of Marengo.

The Group Three Autumn Stakes could pose the biggest question of the form of both Trading Leather and Battle Of Marengo but it could take a brave man to look past Bolger and Manning in this as well.
