Hiney the Hero was genuine Dublin Crystal

MICHAEL O'Grady has paid tribute to Stephen Hiney.

"Two games stand out for me. In the Leinster semi-final replay against Kilkenny in Portlaoise in 2013, he didn't give the great Eoin Larkin a puck.

"He followed that up with a towering display in the Leinster final against Galway. He played in a few different positions and he always held his own.

"He was an inspiring captain. He led by example. We feared the cruciate injury might have ended his career, but he came back stronger.

"His total commitment to club and county was admirable. He has been a great role model for all Dublin hurlers."

Humphrey's Cup

THE annual John Humphrey U10 Football Memorial Cup competition will take place at the Iveagh Grounds on the weekend of December 27/28.

It honours the memory of John, the young and talented St James's Gaels player.

"This tournament is the most special event in the club's calendar," states the Chairman of the Gaels, Kevin Dunne.

"And the most important thing about the competition is that everybody approaches it in a spirit that makes sport the winner."

Those taking part are Castleknock, St Anne's, Cuala, Whitehall Colmcille, St Vincent's, Templeogue Synge Street, St Jude's, Thomas Davis, Lucan Sarsfields and the hosts.

The action begins on the Saturday at 10.30am, with Sunday's games throwing-in at 2.pm.

Spring Series Special

A NICE hat-trick for the Christmas stocking - the Dublin Spring Series at Croke Park.

It's a Dublin GAA and Allianz co-production. And it's the best value in town.

The three card trick costs just €30 for adults and a tenner for juveniles.

For that you get three gala National League Saturday nights under the lights in the big house, with a double-bill for good measure.

Saturday, February 7, (7.0): Dublin footballers v Donegal.

Saturday, March 7, (5.0): Dublin hurlers v Cork. (7.0): Dublin footballers v Tyrone.

Saturday, March 28th, (7.0): Dublin footballers v Derry.
