Gold rush for Leinster

LEINSTER Girls Boxing squad were simply the best wining four gold medals alongside two silvers and two bronzes at last week's Queen's Cup in Stralsund, Germany.

Coaches Paddy Phelan and Dave Molloy were over the moon at the nine-strong team's incredible haul of medals at the 14-nation tournament.

Natasha Logan (St Brigid's BC) outclassed local hope Dominique Gorlich to win Leinster's first gold and was awarded Best Junior Boxer of the tournament.

Joanne Richards (St Michael's BC) doubled Leinster's gold medal tally in the 66kg junior final.

Amy Broadhurst (Dealgan BC) made it a hat-trick of wins.

Broadhurst also picked up the Best Youth accolade.

Cheyanne O'Neill's strength and power overwhelmed French favourite Marion Ensfelder to win Leinster's fourth gold.

Leinster's Shauna Blaney and Niamh Early won silver medals, while Shannon Edge and Rebecca Gorman each claimed bronze medals.
