KILLIAN YOUNG has recalled the agonising twist of fate that ended his 2013 season and left him watching Dublin/Kerry from his bed, writes Frank Roche.
Young was gearing up for Kerry's All-Ireland semi-final against the Dubs when disaster struck during a Fota Island training session. The half-back hasn't kicked a ball since and has yet to resume running, although he's hopeful about a comeback before the end of the upcoming Allianz League.
"My ankle was actually strapped at the time," he said. "But it was the way the ankle turned over, it dislocated – and for your ankle to dislocate your fibula has to break.
"You just knew that was your time. At that moment I was in complete shock. I'm going to be upbeat about it, I'm not going to dwell on the whole thing.
"It was one thing to miss it but to not even be a part of the team ... it was fairly surreal watching it on TV."
