Westmeath outclass Dublin in U16 decider

WESTMEATH produced an exceptional second-half display to claim the Gerry Reilly Intercounty U16 Football Tournament with a 0-11 to 0-3 victory over Dublin in last night's final in Oldcastle.

The Dubs dominated the early exchanges but could not translate their supremacy into scores although Michael Deegan eventually opened their account with an 11th minute point.

Player of the Game Luke Loughlin replied with the first of three first-half points with a Sam Tully score for Dublin ensuring they trailed by the narrowest of margins at the interval.

However, it was one-way traffic on the restart and despite some strong defensive performances from Eoin O'Connor, Eoin Hamill and Alan Kavanagh, Dublin struggled against a powerful Westmeath midfield in which Conor Marlowe starred and further scores from Loughlin, Daragh Lyons and Marlowe gave them an unassailable lead.
